2 movies: Blackhawk Down and Hotel Rowanda.

America and the UN went into Somalia to prevent genocide and save dying people. We were criticized for going in there and meddling in their affairs when they didn't want us there (after 18 US deaths and a highly publiciced event).

A year or two later we DIDN'T go into Rowanda (because after all they didn't want us there and we weren't suposed to meddle in their affairs) and people say "Why didn't someone do something?" "Why didn't someone step in and help"?

So which is it....let the Somalies AND the Rowandans kill and starve each other, being cold, heartless and selfish, or go into both countries and help out in both situations and thereby be "the wolrd's police".

It seems like we're going to be criticized no matter what we do. Your thoughts?

So you're saying that the countries below would have prefered that the US, Canadians, Aussies, Brits, and Russians stayed out of their affairs durring World War II?

Albania
Austria
Belgium
Czechoslovakia
Denmark
Estonia
France
Greece
Hungary
Latvia
Lithuania
Luxembourg
Netherlands
Norway
Poland
Yugoslovia

In Somalia and Rowanda thousands of people were begging for help while others were shooting the help. So how do we know when to help and when not to?

The US should do more real "world police" in stead of always looking for the own political benefits. Except for Somalia they don't do much in Africa and there they could make a difference because the European countries have always the stigma of old colonisator on them.
But the US troops should also be better prepared to work in other cultures. A lot of hate has been created by not understanding the others culture and doing errors. Policing actions is not only showing the power but also about being trusted.

Some of these "problems" are centuries old and sadly many will never be solved due to the pride and selfishness of man.

The United States cannot be a cureall for the world since we do not have the ability to solve our own issues much less have the financial means.

We are caught up in an endless war now that from years back, cannot be resolved thru us, yet we are paying thru the teeth with manpower and finances for people who really do not want things resolved.
Do you not find it interesting that in the midst of "our being there" their own have stepped further and further back while our length of stay is continued "until they are able to get to their feet"?

My heart goes out to the innocent in these countries but truly issues have to be resolved first by those in the given situation and of course then is okay to call for backups(not switch to your primary source).

Secondly, the fact remains, that many of these issues are part of history of these areas and may never be totally resolved but it takes all involved to come to some level of agree to disagree status in order to be able to survive around one another.

Man and his my way or no way theory is sure showing its ugly head and of no good purpose to anyone.

Pray for all the nations!!!!

I agree. Somebody has to step in where others can't or wont.

The USA is typically the best candidate for such interventions because we have the largest, most effective military among the other democratic nations.

We will never be able to please the world, nor will we ever gain the respect of the perpetual anti-US crowd.

Although military/police action is not always the best answer I am glad that someone is willing and able to step up to the plate when the need for action arises.

Let them criticize. Most likely it is the effort of the US or someone like us that ensured that they have such a freedom.

They do not. President Bush on the other hand has been trying to get help passing things so he would basically be the Dictator of other countries.

Added: There is much confusion about when to help. The real problem is " HOW" to help. People will ask for food and get a new government instead. Advertisements and News we receive is fake at this point. All governments are gradually doing that,.. fakeing news to the benfit of the government.

So do you understand that when they Ask for help they want something specific but we do something else,.. and that their cries for help as we see them are Actors, edited,.. or people given help just in some neighborhood. It's called Bribery in that case.

There are gradations between extremes. No one wants a world police such as you might see if a futureworld flick. A force to stop genocides and ethnic cleansings, sure, but not a totalitarian iron hand.

No. No Country wants others to interfere in their internal problems. We all know how U.N. decides with all the" veto powers" in the hands of Five Nations.

Criminals never want police. Nobody wants heavyhanded police. But yes, everybody eventually wants the security of knowing a police force is 'there' at some time.

it's best to leave countires to sort out tiher own probs, rememeber rawanda war was ecalated by certain european nations by supplying arms to millitias, a lot less ppl would have died if these nations didn't interfere. no country has the right to police another country specaily when they have a very bad racord at killing cvillians themselves like the u.s have. japan, korea, vietnamese, iraq's not including the red indians and the black slaves.

no one can survive in chaos...if we are to survive as a race some order is needed...we need to consider that people as humanity need to be free to live and prosper and if not police than how do we do this.
