My husband I have worked together at various jobs for the entirety of our marriage (22 years).

One of the reasons it works is that we have rules that we live by:

#1. No personal issues at work. (this works so well that when we were going through a bad patch and contimplating divorce no one at work had any idea)

#2. No public displays of affection.

#3. When we are at work we do what's best for the business.

We work together so well that the company we are at is OK with me being his supervisor for the last year.

The strangest part of this was the first time a customer complained about him. I wasn't used to anyone saying bad things about my husband to me. The issue was resolved to the customer's satisfaction and all without her ever finding out that she was complaining about my husband. But it was still really bizarre.

Do you mean as a person who is NOT one of the couples?

I work in a department now that has two couples. One husbandand wife team work side by side, while the other h/w team are a few desks apart. For me as an observer to these marriages, I do not see any problems.

However, I can see how there could be issues. For example, if the couple break up or are having a bad day, it may be difficult for them to work side by side in the office. As a business owner, this could play havoc with your office chemistry.

Also, in the event that one person can't make it into the office for some reason, it may affect BOTH employees, such as with a family emergency.

I personally would try not to work with my partner, not because I do not enjoy her company, but because it could cause friction if you or she are having an off-day. (Working in different departments at the same company would not be an issue for me...)

As in a married couple? As long as it does not adversely affect the mission I could care less if the whole office was involved in some weird, multi-partner relationship. I am there to work.
