It was the workers in the Lumiere factory, filmed leaving the factory in 1895. The first actor in a dramatic short was Robert Thomae, as Mary Queen of Scots in the short of the same name made by the Edison company.

The first people to star in a dramatic feature length film were Elizabeth Tait and John Tait in the Story of The Kelly Gang (1906), made by the Salvation Army in Australia.

It depends on how you define actor, I think that the first one that was in a movie and was making another character I think was [b]G. Sacco Albanese[/b]. Thought I am not sure its the first person that you find tagged as an actor.
