I've never had kids and had a Mirena IUD installed yesterday. It was painful, but I'm feeling better today. I'm now paranoid about having sex w/ my husband and freaking out that this thing is inside of me. Are there any others that have never had kids and got an IUD out there?

Thanks for all of your answers! I've never been pregnant that I'm aware of and the doctor let me decide on what I wanted to do. I chose the IUD since I thought it would be easier and cheaper for the long haul and I too thought you couldn't get it w/out already having kids. After having the IUD, I couldn't imagine what it would be like to be pregnant if I'm feeling creepy about a piece of plastic being in there! My husband and I gave it a shot this evening and I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have pain, etc. We were making jokes about what crazy things could happen. I'm feeling better about it now.

I have had mirena "installed" 2 years ago. I DO have kids, but I know what you are feeling. When this IUD is first installed, your body needs to recognise it. Its a foreign thing inserted into your uterus and your body may be experiencing pains that are like mild contractions.... this is normal.

I was PARANOID and you would think after having kids 'n' all it would seem easier, but I had probs too.

If you have an understanding hubby, ask him to try and relax you a bit. The first few times we had sex< all i did was wonder if he could feel it, try and concentrate on what I was feeling etc.

You can be intimate at any time from now on. The barriers are in your mind.

My advice..... relax.
GOOD LUCK!!!!! :)

Its very rare for a DR to insert an IUD on a Nulli woman BUT they do for medical reasons and also if the woman is aware that there is a high possibility of perforation and possible sterilization. (since a Nulli woman is more likely to have a smaller uterus than a woman who has had at least 1 child.

Personally I had gone 3 months with out intercourse since Intercourse provoked my pre-term labor at 33wks and I had my IUD inserted at 4 weeks post partum I went home and had sex that same day. To make sure your hubby doesn't feel the strings tuck the strings around your cervix. With time they will soften a bit and he wont notice them anymore but he might notice them at 1st but it takes some getting used to

i have mirena, and i also have a daughter. I have been on mirena for about two years now and i love it. if you are feeling better then the pain is over welcome to freedom. Mirena has been wonderful for me although at first i still used a second form of protection just because i was very nervous about getting pregnant. but now mirena is all that i use. and for a year now so far so good.

I have the Mirena too. I have kids but was still real paranoid about having it. I was constantly checking the strings to make sure it was still there and in place. I stopped being paranoid at my one month check when my Dr assured me everything was fine.

I love it. Don't give up on it too soon!!

i felt ok as soon as the bleeding stopped. if it weren't for the bleeding i would have had sex immediately. i'm shocked your doctor thought it was a good idea to get it done since you've never had kids though. generally they don't recommend you get one if you haven't had kids.
