Like any other outside effort to get you to act, peer pressure is good when it pushes you to improve at something or do something for a good reason. Think high school sports. You are part of a team, but in order to get in that team, you need good grades. To be looked up to in that same team, you need to practice and become a better athlete, so peer pressure to help you become a better person is very positive.

Peer pressure is only good when you are being pressured into doing something good for yourself or the community.
I had a bunch of friends who were wanna be Eco worriers and they were all against wearing fur and things like that and i was always pressured into joining their campaigns.
I know it sounds strange but it is true.
Peer pressure also allows you to find out who you truly are and how susceptible you are to giving in to things you don't believe in.

I agree with Guicho. Peer pressure has its upside and its downside. It does a lot to make us aware of our social responsibilities, and it can take away our rational thought to know if something is inately right or wrong. For example, have you ever noticed that once one person parks illegally there will be a lineup behind that car within five minutes.
Follow your conscience.
