I'm a 3rd year philosophy student and I've heard of a theory that I think is quite interesting.
Have you ever gone to sleep and had an elaborate dream that seemed to last forever, and you suddenly wake up and realize you were only asleep for a few minutes? Dream time seems to be infinitely long and our dreams are just as real as our waking life - as long as we are asleep, this meaning that there really is no difference between our waking state and our dream state in theory. Although we can reason in our waking state we also can in a dream state, its called lucid dreaming or being aware that one is in a dream and dreams can be manipulated. When we die, as you probably know, there are roughly 10-15 minutes where our mind is still functioning and our body is not, this 10-15 minutes is short, but in dream time it is not, technically you could fit a lifetime of dreams into that 10-15 minutes, and it is quite possible it could feel like you were experiencing another life, the theory is a little out there but if you really think about it, it could be quite possible, if you think about your dreams like another state of reality it can make life a lot more interesting

Thought is always about the past or future. There is no thought in the present. And it is a continuous process. Mind is a collection of thought. If there is no thought then there is no mind. Dream according to me is continuation of thought in sleep. We cannot describe the nature of thought, because it is not a physical activity.

Your thoughts alone triggers your dream.
Most often than not, what you're inner most thoughts manifest through it. whatever you bottle up inside you, unresolved or something of inquisitive nature will be shown in your dream through symbolisms. Sometimes it cam be literal, like people you know, or places you've been, but shouldn't be taken literally.
Your thoughts when you're awake that are taken for granted has a habit of hiding themselves somewhere in your brain... when you're at rest, that's when they creep out. in other word, the subconscious is at it's strongest when the conscious is at it's weakest.

There is no meaningful thought in dreams.
It's all false content.

There is so much lack of detail that incongruities seem to follow.

Being fooled by the hallucination while asleep doesn't mean I can't tell I'm awake while I'm awake.
