I met a few guys online in the past.Mostly they were just "for fun" guys.I met one guy I wanted to date.He was so perfect. He was an ex marine and a body builder and he was just the perfect looking guy who seemed to be romantic. That is until I started dating him.He was possessive, narcissistic, demanding, selfish, and often told me how I needed to change who I was for him. That lasted about a month.I guess the more a guy seems perfect the more likely he has something seriously wrong with him in another way.

Overall, I would say that 70% of online hook ups are for one thing and it is not dating.20% are guys that might be something that you don't want.5% might be meaningful meetings and the rest are all talk.

Yes, I have 3 very close real life gay friends that I met online chatting in AIM back in the days that AIM chatrooms were left alone. I have a lover, so I've never had sex with any of them, but I am very close to all three. One from CT, one from near where I live, and one from (originally) the middle east (now at University a couple of hours away). I would not have willingly missed any of those meetings and friendships for anything.

Regards,

Reyn

PS All of them were exactly what they said -- although there were things that the boy from the middle east left out -- like just how elite he and his family were --- but he is sweet and loving and kind to everyone, he just didn't want friends who didn't have to know by nature to know that his family was "all that." In fact, he has never actually told me outright -- its how much money is his, invested, in trust, and liquid, how he dresses, details I found out about the private school he went to for H/S, and some of the "other" people that came to visit him at school. I don't really consider that deception though - more privacy, and wanting to know your friends really are your friends and aren't there cause you have a lot.

Yes. I have met some terrific local people online. Although people don't always look the way you think they will look, their personalities seem to be the same, although the tendancy to lie about themselves on the internet seems to be very great for people who feel safe behind a computer keyboard.

It is a fun way to meet people, but I wonder at the same time about people who throw away their real lives and relationships to go traipsing across the globe to live or stay with people they really dont know. There is of course a real danger here, in that they are really trusting people who may be preparing to set them up for any type of illicit behaviour.

Yes, I met my bf on MySpace one year ago. We started chatting for a few weeks then met in real time. We live in the same city, so that made it easier to transition to real friendship. We've been together since then and moved into together last Labor Day.
Funny thing is, I don't think we would have lasted if we had met at a personals site like gaydar.co.uk.

yes - nine years ago and we have been happily living together for most of that time now - and expect to continue for good.
must say though - we had many phone calls etc before we met and were careful about being safe etc when we did meet first off.
