adding ion [OH-] into the water ,you will see a precipitate of white and blue
Fe 2+ + 2OH- => Fe(OH)2
or a precipitate of brown and red
Fe 3+ + 3OH- => Fe(OH)3

put a magnet under the water,if it attracts the IRON u will understand the presence.
