YES!!My mother used to watch my children while I worked. And, I would even pay over the amount that we set..and I paid her even for days that she didn't have to watch them. I figured I was still getting off WAY cheaper than I would if I paid a daycare center. Plus, she needed the money . She always has taken care of me anyway that she could and it was my chance to help her! Plus...what better babysitter can you give your children... than their own Grandmother!!!

30 hours a week? Well... that's more than simple "grandparental obligations" would normally warrant. If your imposing on your mother to have her look after your kids so that you don't have to than, yeah, she might be justified in asking for money. But it's a little strange since a) many elderly people have more money than they have time and b) having your mom be someone you employ will add a new level of stress to what is probably an already complicated relationship.
I'd say that you should talk to your grandmother about how much time she *wants* to spend with your children, and also about whether or not she really needs the money. Depending on the answers and how everyone feels about it, it may be simpler to find a real babysitter and use that person instead.
Hope this helps.

I definitely would offer the Grandmother something each week even if she said no thank you each time.
Reason being at lest my children are with someone I sincerely trust and not wondering at work about there well being.
Even if she turned me down every time I mite would get her a gift card to a nice place to eat or a little some thing to show her I appreciate her love and kindness to me and my children for being there for us .
Day care or even a stranger cost so much by the week it is offal.
The not knowing how my children will be treated would be devastating to me

It all depends on the grandmother. I mean I'd offer to pay her but some just will not take it. But you know what a handful kids can be and I feel they deserve to be paid for caring for them.

If she needs the money it would probably be a nice gesture; otherwise, there might not be a need to do that. It's according to the circumstance, and what people feel, really.
I just reread and saw the 30 hours - most probably, yes.

Yes why not you would pay anyone else to babysit. 30 hrs a wk is alot to expect anyone to do it for free. Grandparents are humans also do the right thing.

YES!!!!
It would be fine if it was a couple of ours here and there, but that's a full time babysitter you've got there. And being a granny you cant ask for money, but i'm sure she would love to get something for doing it.
Dont take advantage, thats just mean!!

most definitely - Grandmothers are often taken for granted and abused in this way - they have the right to a life and to be reimbursed for their time - same as anyone
