I think a lot comes down to coping mechanisms. As people have pointed out, men are far less likely to discuss feelings of unhappiness or insecurity than women. That makes it difficult to deal with failure or depression in a constructive way.

White men may have a higher expectation of success and so, be less able to deal with failure than other groups, but that's not because they're more driven. It's because they, more than any other group, enjoy the privilege of knowing that they're unlikely to face discrimination. Members of other groups know they'll have to face discrimination and develop coping mechanisms as they grow up.

It's interesting that some on here are trying to spin the higher white male suicide rate into a positive reflection on their work ethic. What pap. Does anyone doubt that these same people would have a far different spin if black men had the highest suicide rate? Then, no doubt, they'd say it showed that black men couldn't compete and took the easy way out.

The answers to your question show, more than anything else, how much people are inclined to interpret the world in a way that confirms their own preconceived beliefs.

When you have something to struggle for and the ways to achieve it, you have higher stamina. A woman with children and some kind of job, even it is low paying, has a reason to survive and fight. A man who can always fall back on unemployment pay, with no family to support, i.e. no responsibilities, may not find it worthwhile to struggle on. But when you don't have the means to fight (i.e. you are a woman in a very closed society or a man with no employment prospect whatsoever), you may lose the stamina. In our culture it is socially acceptable to hate and demonize whites and males, whereas all others receive the utmost protection from even the slightest perceived insults.

Women, in general, tend to verbalize their feelings and communicate to others, which helps them avoid extremes of emotion if they have a healthy and strong support team of tamily and friends. They're not afraid to cry and get their difficulties out in the open.

Men keep all their frustrations inside. They "suck it up" and don't talk about their troubles until, in some cases, it's too late. Because they don't talk, others are not there to help them and men's problems escalate to the point where they just can't go on suffering alone anymore. Men need to learn to seek help.

Well my friend, white men can`t jump you know, and for me that have been a serious problem, you see, black women jumps way better than me anyway. Therefor you see, we white men have almost nothin`at all to live for. Me, the fool I so clearly am tried suicide a lot of times, until the day I found out I could not even do that. this is easy. White men(white people in generel) are weak people. Black women on the other hand are extremely strong, and stronged willed. The things black women go through on a daily bases are very hard and for them to come out the strongest shows a lot.

White men- pressure to succeed? I don't think so- they don't nearly have to work as hard as a black women to succeed. They don't have to nearly climb as many obstales as a black women does. White men get nothing on their own true merit, they only get it from living in a racist system they created that gives them handouts,and white privlege.

whites are the people who are racist and thrive on racism... racism is what Keeps them up. They really are very,very, sad,pathetic weak people-if they didn't have racism to help them, they'd would all have commited suicide by now.

that is interesting because in the health care settings it is proven that women are stronger than males and blacks are stronger than whites...example....in the neonatal intensive care units...the black females have the highest survival rates while the white males have the lowest survival rates....this has been proven through studies

It could be that the men are using these women to have extra-marital affairs, and when the women get pregnant, the men get depressed and commit suicide. The women know that their secrets are safe in their lovers' graves, so they are able to live more peacefully.

In my humble opinion, I think that white men have been hurting other people for well over 500 years, in an effort to succeed in life. They raped, robbed, killed, maimed, lied, blamed their victims for having been raped robbed killed, maimed, etc. I think that in their minds many white men feel that the ends justify the means, regardless of who gets hurt/dies.

However some white men, after all of the persecution they have inflicted upon others, find that they have not succeeded. After all of their malicious acts, they cannot keep up with peers and achieve the American Imperialist Dream. Maybe they want to avoid the consequences of their actions and feel suicide is the only way to sooth their guilty conscious. They place themselves on a very high pedestal, thinking they and their actions are above the average person. Well, as the saying goes, "the bigger they, the harder they fall". Many white people (white men in particular) do not live in the real world. Many white people live in some make believe world where they are superior to every other ethnic group; they think they have a God given right to treat every other race however they choose. And they think that there is a God in Heaven that will justify and sanctify their acts. A careful look at how the US Government's covert acts in the (so-called) Third World countries will be very revealing as to how white people disregard other ethnic groups. Just the term "Third World" is a clear indication of their superior attutide. When, TRUTH be told, those "Third World" countries are supplying all of US/Europe's natural resouces. How can those "Third World" countries be so rich in natural resources, and yet be thought of as being in last place?!?!?!

Conversly, black women do not have bloodstained hands like white men. Black women, historically, have not fashioned policies/laws to deceive people out of their land (as the case of the US Gov't and Native Americans); Black women have not innoculated Black Africans with small pox only to have those same people become HIV positive within a decade; Black women have not enslaved innocent people and used them for free labor while at the same time blaming those people for their enslavement.

Black women may be looked upon in a negative light by the WASPS of this nation, but in our hearts we do not carry the guilt of the pain/suffering of this world. We have to stay strong and continue to live for the sake of our children. (Despite the negative things we are taught about ourselves by white men)
