Nobody likes them because they are self proclaimed world police, and though they act as "uncle Tom", they are actually the same old "uncle Sam" doing everything that related to their own interest.
Americans are still in the WWII mind set and they are yet to understand that the world has changed since then, there is no more cold war or just 2 superpowers, other countries have become matured and self sufficient, and a lot of them need not have America's advise on how to do what..
They have not grown up since they got beaten up in Vietnam and still live in the "USA nuked Japan" era. They know the mess they made in Afghanistan and Iraq, and aware of the mess they are going to do about Korea and Iran..still they are always adamant like the bad guy round the wine shop, who is always drunk and always right. I know most Americans will dislike what I say, and will call me stereotype anti-American, but then its you people who elects the "bullies" who runs their own country less and other countries more..
In one word, they are bullies of today's world, the weaker ones hide behind them, but the better ones always stands up.

Well our leader is one reason, but that happens with just about any country, they take the leader as an example for the whole country.
But another reason why we're hated across the world is becuase we tend to be loud, arrogant (people don't like hearing americans saying USA is the best country in the world), for the most part we consider other peoples customs and traditions both silly and laughable (even though they do the same to ours). Another reason is because a lot of countries are in debt, which keeps them in poverty, and all the money they owe is to the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and that keeps them in debt more and more, because the interest raises quickly, thus adding more money owed and more interest. They link the IMF to USA, so those are just some of the reasons why people hate americans. I'm sure there are more I have yet to hear.

As a Canadian, I can tell you that I don't hate Americans - as a group. However, the American culture is filled with violence (a gun in every home) and shallow ideals ( money, flashy cars and loose women are the epitome of the culture); this may not be true of every American, but it is the image that the American media displays to the world. And yes, some Americans do come across as arrogant; and ignorant of other cultures.

We believed that with the evolution of the people when more colonies are not more conquered as was intended by the Nazi in Second World War, invading countries and we hoped it has if contained oh this phase of the history, on the world this thing has changed.
The United States as economical potency that uses that resource to serve as mediator of all the causes, wandering in a begin basic that leadership is conquered, not imposed. And they want to be definitively bosses the any cost.
That is what I think about.

So many - especially on here - come across as loud, arrogant xenophobes. They also seem to hate each other a lot - everyone seems to define themselves as a [Something]-American, rather than just American.
Many seem to believe that the US rules the whole world. As for Bush ... a man of very profound stupidity (as is Blair).
And yet, I have also met many nice Americans - charming, intelligent and cultured people. And I adore the Indigo Girls.
It is never wise to assume there really is a National Identity.

I hate the US government mostly. Dubya stole the election against Al Gore and has significantly increased the security threat to themselves and their allies by their illegal war in Iraq. I also hate the Americans on yahoo answers and really hope they are not representative of American society as a whole. Any criticism of America is construed by them as jealousy. Erm...hardly. They also ask such amazingly ignorant questions, ie. what is the currency in Europe?', what do people wear in Britain and my personal favourite:is Europe a rich country like America?
gg: What are you on? The entire continent of Europe/Australia/ South America and the vast majority of citizens in Asia and Africa has all the freedoms you mention? You are contributing to the lack of freedom in some parts of the world. Please tell me how gang-raping and executing a 14 year old Iraqi girl and her family is helpful. If you are the most civilised country in the world, you should be setting the example, not acting like animals.Do you really believe you are the ONLY country in the world to have these freedoms?

Got some left over boogie boards from a few summers ago, let the bidding begin. American Government has to understand that was then, this is now...we don't want or need you selling your slepp at our door step. Hands off, and I mean now.

Nobody likes Americans because they are fat and noisy moron hypocrites who host the World Series Baseball participated in by teams only from the states. Furthermore they can't spell the Queens English correctly and speak with a funny accent. Plus the president is a fraud who holds the interests of oil companys above all else. Have a nice day and consider shaving off your Bush.

Let's separate American individuals from the American stereotype first. I have no problem with individuals, who I value depending on merit. But when it comes to the stereotype (and there are so many examples of that stereotype that it becomes real at times), I can summarize in two attributes: willful ignorance and ruthless arrogance. That wraps it up for me.

Clearly you do not like Americans. I would guess that the Americans that you know are arrogant, but I beg to differ. I am an American and am not arrogant. I am not wealthy, but am wise enough to know that I have an extremely easy life. I go to work every day, raise my kid, try to better myself, cook for my husband and daughter, help my neighbors.
I don't have to worry about being publicly executed for not putting the correct muslim ingredients in my bread....I don't have to worry about being stoned to death for not covering my hair.
I don't have to worry about my government coming to drag me off in the middle of the night because I don't think the exact same way that they do. I don't have to worry about being sold into slavery by a rival tribe.
I don't have to marry someone who is abusive, just because my parents picked my spouse on my 3rd birthday. I don't have to accept work as a laborer, even if the rest of my ancestors were. Democracy is envied by all non-democratic societies. They hate us.
I can only imagine that people hate Americans because they have more. I can't say they have a better life. Having more possessions/money doesn't make a person happier, but having more FREEDOM does. I can wake up in the morning and start my own business if I want. I can make as much money as I possibly can, regardless of my social class.
It is like the beautiful rich girl in class. Everyone hates her, because they think she has more than they do....an easy life, access to friends/connections, more money, less work. She is hated, yet envied.
The majority of people who hate Americans would accept their lifestyle in a heartbeat if it was handed to them. They can't ALL become US residents, so they choose to hate us instead of fight for freedom in their own country.
After reading some of the comments here, it appears that those anti-americans who hate "Bush" are more arrogant than most Americans are. Who will they hate when Bush leaves office? I doubt they will ever love us.
