I am an American citizen who spent a considerable amount of time in Europe over the past five or six years. I lived in France for two years while doing some undergraduate work and my masters degree. I have also done an internship and a high school exchange program in Spain. I am currently living in the Basque Country and studying in an intensive Basque language school with the hopes of passing the government Basque language exam, which is needed for most jobs here. I want to live and work in Europe, preferably in the Basque Country, but I am also open to other locations, especially in Spain, France, or Italy. What do I need to do to find a job overseas? What do I need to do to get a work permit here? When you are looking for a job, you need to have a work permit, but in order to the work permit, you need to have a job, so it's essentially a catch 22. Has anyone been in this situation? Advice? Ideas? Thanks.

OK..first talk to one of your instructors/teachers about it.They might know someone that could need help around the work place.I dont know what kind of job you want.Find something that you like, and if the boss is nice ,he will hire you and then go with you to get a work permit.Hope this helps.Good luck

You could marry an EEC citizen then you would get the right to work. You could also teach at an American or International school.

you probably have to find an employer that is hiring and wants you enough to commit to sponsoring you.....or at least guarantees you a job so you can put that in writing for your visa app......they're pretty good over there to put help-wanted ads online

and europe can be better than the USA to work in some ways.....a lot more paid vacation for one thing.
