Happy or not is very subjective. Some may be very poor but still happy. Other could be very rich but still not happy. But generally, Singaporean are not happy as the environment require one to keep working, once you unable to work, you can't even step out of the house. They are uncertain of the future, as there is no more job security nowaday. Most are contract, even permanent, you could be retrench anytime. Their old age is the major problem, as the Government "encourage" each individual to take care of their old age. Happy? Just have to take is easy.

I don't think Singaporeans are contented with their lot in life. The 'never enough' mentality is so steeped in Singapore's post-modern history that there's always something 'more' to work towards.

I personally don't believe in pursuing the 5Cs and using material wealth as a yardstick for my rate of success or achievements. I'd rather just be contented with whatever is dished out to me.

But of course, achieving this sense of contentment requires hardwork. There's never a free ride in any corner of this world.

The answer is yes and no. Because the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer, thus the income gaps are widen terribly. Something like a "CEO" one month pay is equal to the lowest rank in the company, where he/she have to work life long; say maybe 25 years or more. Thus ! you think Singaporeans are happy ?
