Well, to me it means another day at work. Nothing special, except I expect it to be quite busy in the rural ER I work at.

I noticed how many of you answered that it's all about money and commercialism. Who makes it that way? Do the shop owners great you with a weapon and force you to purchase their wares? No.

Take control of the holiday and celebrate in a meaningful way. If you choose to celebrate the birth of the Christ child, then do so. There are churches all over the world who will be holding ceremonies in which you can participate.

If you choose to host a family gathering...have at it. Gather your loved ones together while forgetting the little petty grievances you've held. Plan a tasty meal to linger over while sharing fond memories.

No one can make you turn this day into a contest for who can buy the best whatever. You are in control.

Happy Holidays.

The same thing it always was:
1 Celebration of the Birth of Jesus.
2 The giving nature of Santa Claus.
3 A joyous time with family and friends.
4 The Extreme Commercialization and value twisting greed and want for MORE stuff and things. The guilt and shame of not being able to fulfill the greed and want of others when you are unable to provide.

1,2, and 3 are what mine is all about.

Sure Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about...And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men....that's what Christmas is all about Charlie Brown. - Linus

Greed and commercialism.
I refuse to have much to do with it these days. I prefer to revert back to the "goodwill to all men" aspect instead of the "Jingle Bells" aspect.
I don't give Christmas presents to many people these days but prefer to give everybody a really good gift on their birthday instead. At this time of year I give to charities.
It's not "Bah Humbug" really. It's to do with values and it saddens me greatly to hear of such things as the Farepak swindle. Those poor people. They need our generosity more than some others.
THAT'S what Christmas is all about these days in my opinion.

you are right. it is about the reality and existence of hell. the same as it has always been. it is the entire reason Jesus Christ was born. to die for us and to save us from an eternity in hell. we often don't thank Him for His sacrifice to save us from it. more often we behave like we would rather suffer in hell instead. thank God we still have an opportunity to start living and show our gratitude by loving the people around us. we can be kind and charitable to people in which Christ lives and dwells- even if His image so distorted we don't recognize Him."Whatever you do unto the least of these you do unto me"
it all starts with us. Merry CHRISTmas!

In todays world and with the way things are by getting worse off every year you have answered your own question. HELL
Try to talk to anyone about what it should mean and they will ignore you and do anything possible to change the subject. It's a sorry sad state of the things with the way they are and it is only going to get worse.

whatever you want it to be about. people get too worked up about Christmas these days. "he called it xmas and she celebrates and isnt religious and its all about the presents for some people" people really need to relax and celebrate it the way they want and have it be about whats important to them. who cares if someone isnt religious and celebrates Christmas? is it hurting anyone?..no. and its only so commercial lately because people let it become that way. I say decide what the holiday means to you and celebrate it as you see fit. that way you get what you want out of it and others can be left to enjoy it their way too.
