People say abortion is dangerous because they are: 1) lying; 2) ignorant; or 3) brainwashed by religious zealouts.
Abortion is no more dangerous than any other medical procedure, and in many cases is safer than carrying a pregnancy to full term.

There are many women who die from legal abortions today. Many more die than are even reported as sometimes a woman who dies of infection, hemorrhage, blood clots, etc. often doesn't even report to emergency room, or paramedics that she had the abortion. Especially if her partner or husband is unaware she had an abortion. Often women get abortions out of state or area for privacy reasons, which also can make it harder to get a true number of how many deaths are related. To say that women don't die in legal abortions is wrong and ignorant. I'm not sure exactly what point you're trying to prove other than your question was not backed up with any fact or truth.
I think you need to realize there are still people who die of routine operations as well. This is just a fact, anytime there is an operation there is a chance for complications even under the best of settings. This is true even of the best hospitals in the nation.
I would also like to point out your mother did NOT receive 164 blood transfusions, I am not doubting that she didn't have hemorrhaging or blood transfusions however your numbers are inflated and unrealistic for such a situation. If her hemorrhage was that serious and the drugs they give you to try to stop it along with additional blood aren't working you are given an immediate hysterectomy which immediately stops all of the bleeding. Hemorrhaging after childbirth is different than other types of hemorrhaging as they can rectify the situation very quickly by removing the uterus. They would not deplete the blood bank in effort to stop bleeding that could be controlled with a simple procedure.
In addition you need to know that pregnancy in general can be dangerous to the mother's health not just abortion or childbirth. There are women who die every year due to complications of pregnancy, some include when blood clots which can occur do the increase of estrogen production, heart complications, there are women who develop heart conditions while pregnant they never had before, eclampsia is also very life threatening, including hypertension, aneurisms, etc. These things can occur at ANY time during the pregnancy not just labor and delivery. Before you jump to conclusions you need to be more careful to check your information.
Below are some FACTS about deaths and legal abortions.
(To Gail above I would like to point out that the majority of abortions that occur are not done under general anesthesia)

You can die from an abortion quite easily if not done correctly or if a woman hemmorages. Giving birth if not the only way you can die. That is why we have the law that women can get an abortion because soo many women were dying from botched abortions in the late 50's and 60's.

Deaths from abortions are almost never reported to the State as "Death from Abortions" because of the stigma it would carry. Just like when people are diagnosed with AIDS they usually don't put "Died from AIDS" on the deah certificate, it is usually "Death from Pneumonia".
Ask your Mother if she would have rather aborted you than have given birth to you to save herself from hemmorage. Today's day and age, giving birth is a relativley safe thing to do. Modern medicine is wonderful, and children are wonderful, too.

The failure to provide women with the means to prevent unintended pregnancies creates an extraordinary and avoidable public health threat that results in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of women. From 1995-2000, nearly 700,000 women died from causes related to unintended pregnancies.
While more than one-third died from problems associated with pregnancy, labor and delivery, the majority — more than 400,000 — died as a result of complications resulting from unsafe abortions. Many hundreds of thousands more survived after hospitalization for complications of unsafe abortion.

Both are risky. But its very rare for women nowadays to die whilst having a baby or undergoing abortion. Advances in medical treatments are very good and maternal death is thankfully becoming almost unheard of.

Abortion was just as dangerous as childbirth in the days when it was illegal and carried out by non-qualified backstreet abortionists who had little medical knowledge and worked in completely unsanitary conditions with tools like knitting needles and without anaesthetic.
This had dire consequences for the women who had gone to these abortionists as they could bleed to death, get infected or become infertile if they survived.
In modern conditions it carries the same risk as most simple operations though with the present MRSA prevalence in hospitals, you can go in with something banal and die as a consequence.
