Will there be morality issues involved? Raffles can generate quite a sum of money, but I have to consider the morality issue of it. How do i decide?

=don't look too deeply within. Take it at face value. Raffles are for charity so it is always a win win situation. Relax.

Nia, raffles are definitely appropriate during fund-raising events as long as the prizes do not conflict with the object of the fundraiser.

Because the event's goal is to raise funds, people already have an understanding of the purpose and will fully understand having raffles during the event to increase the excitement and give others a chance to take home a wonderful prize. For instance, we had a fundraiser and raffled off hotel stays (a lot of hotel vendors donated overnight stays). The fundraiser was a silent auction where people silently bidded on "gently used" items. The hotel stays were much more luxurious and people did not mind spending a couple of bucks to get this prize that was usually worth a minimum of $200. We also did this at our tea. People paid for tickets to have tea, but bought raffle tickets for the vendor prizes we were able to have donated. One year, the raffle tickets alone raised over $4,500.

People love to win things.

It depends on the event. If you expect to have a ton of people who are firmly against gambling, don't do it. For example, some churches hold raffles, other churches preach against gambling in any form.

If the guests have already paid to be at a fundraising event, then it could be perceived as tacky, kind of like having a dollar dance at a wedding--could be taken either way.

Raffles are fine ... as long as you're honest and everything is above board you just need to remember that it is illegal to raffle Money or Alcohol
