Reading Like A Writer is a book by Francine Prose. In it she advocates that those who love books and would like to be writers should read slowly with a writer's eye. That means paying careful attention to things like structure (how words, sentences and paragraphs are put together) and craft (things like dialog, narration, character development). The writer's eye becomes like the third eye - the eye that pays attention to the details of the actual writing, as well as the plot.

Reader like a writer is reading not just for the story, but to see what the author used to hook the reader, how they went about sentence structure, etc. It is also a good way to distance yourself from a story you wrote and are trying to edit.

Reading like a writer is like PROOFREADING. Making sure that every detail is read and then corrected or reconstructed if necessary. Purpose is to create a more interesting reading material.
