As with any argument to convince someone of something, use evidence. Find some reputable statistics (abou tincreased employability for people who know foreign languages) or go through the newspaper job ads and hilight all of the ones that require or even prefer bilingual applicants. It's hard to argue against cold facts.

Remember him that the numbers were invented in Arabia, that Pitagoras and Archimedes spoke greek, Fourrier and DesCartes spoke French, Gauss and Eisten were German, Tesla was Serbian, Galileo was italian etc.

Contact ACTFL.org for statitistics, and/or purchase the Pro-German binder (formally called Werbe-Mappe) from AATG.org. Both will have statistics about jobs, increased sucess at SATs etc.
