Many are elected and if they arent good at thier job they get voted out . That helps keep them accountable to the people.
Those that are appointed they get too much control and hard to get out without an 06.

I don't know. The people should have some input, but I am not sure how much.
And despite the first poster's statement, not all local/state judgeships are elected. Many out there ARE appointed. Until relatively recently, several of North Carolina's judges were appointed.
Often there is a mix of appointed and elected judgeships.
But I think the question may be for the Federal Judgeships.
Should we elect them?
I would say Yes, IF they had certain qualifications, such as age, years of practice/service, etc, maybe...I don't know.

The only difference between elected judges and appointed judges is the amount of money wasted getting the office. Either method is still controlled by political powers. The people do not have a chance of getting a Judge that does not follow party politics. More and more of this country is falling under the control of special interest as the masses wallow in disbelief on how things have gone so wrong.

Yes judges should be elected so to should police chiefs.
What a difference that would make to law and order in the UK.
Imagine it....REAL criminals caught AND jailed.
The North Wales police chief would be out of office in a second...what with all those poor motorist he has picked on.
The judge or cop no good..out they go.

Judges aren't eleced in the UK. Judges are appointed by both the governmemnt and their peers. having any election would mean they have a polical agenda which which give issues with the seperation of the govemnment and the courts.

Judges could do their job without election, based on their levels of ability and skill.
BUT, if they go off on a tangent with stupid ideas then they should be immediately removed from office.

are you an american? because in the US most judges are elected in the local level. only federal/supreme court judges are appointed, but any judge that works at your local county courthouse is probably elected in those lame local elections that nobody participates in, same with your local township supervisor, sanitation commissioner, and city council.
