You are right, just thinking the same thing, no ones opinion should get a 'thumbs down' just because other people don't agree with the response! I answered a fallout boy question and got a lot of thumb downs just because I said I didn't like them (oh brother!) No such thing as a bad question, I have actually learned a lot of things on here that I never even would have thought of, without even trying to learn anything new! So, ask away!

I gave you a thumbs up! :)
Personally, I think it is cool to rate the questions but some people are thumb trolls - something I learned from a person asking why there were so many on Y!A. They go around using that one little victory dance (since they have so few) and put thumbs down on questions and people's responses because they get to sit on their throne and be king/queen for the hour.
Most of the questions on Y!A are not bad but you must admit some of them are so off the wall, they deserve a thumbs down because it doesn't deserve the energy to respond by typing something. Another reason thumbs down is good to use is the abusive nature of people to "report" others for their opinion. This gives you a safe haven, but a right to disagree or agree anonymously.
I agree with you that Y!A was originally thought to be a place to ask questions and get appropriate answers. Now it has become a soap box for individuals who have nothing better to do than cause hate and discontent on this forum.

I understand how you are feeling, as I thought it was unjustified when some of my questions received a thumbs down. However, just don't care about people who unfairly downrate your questions. I think the rating system should stay because sometimes people actually do post unhelpful questions - and in those instances I do want to give them a thumbs down. If you look around on Yahoo Answers more, or stick around longer, you will come across them.

I consider it fair. Firstly, does a question meet the standards of the community guidelines? This is a judgment call, and opinions differ, but it is appropriate to ding a question which is abusive or grossly offensive. Secondly, does the question pose a real issue, or is it just a rant of some kind? If the latter, giving a thumbs-down is appropriate. Of course, this system (as any) is subject to abuse, and people (inappropriately) give thumbs down to answers they disagree with no matter how well the answer is drawn.

In theory, it should be a good idea BUT I reckon that there are people who get a kick just from down rating questions. Bloody sad if you ask me.
Yes, I do think that there are some STUPID questions - stupid in that they are insulting or inflammatory or just non-questions. For example take a look at how many people have asked "Is this a stupid question?". Whats the point.

if u'd seen some of the idiotic questions that i've seen on here, u would probably be more willing to use the thumbs down...... u are right, some people rate things thumbs down just because they are a bit mean...... but sometimes i think that people are totally justified in using them..... for instance, yesterday i gave a thumbs down to a guy who was trying to advertise his own dating website, rather than actually asking a question...... but when it boils down to it, yahoo make the rules, so if they decide that they want to use that system, the likes of u and i just have to get on with it. no use in stressing over it hon !

Yes it is fair but only if the idiots who ask stupid questions, who I would like to see removed from the site, stop rating irresponsibly. I am sure they are one and the same.
There are bad questions and there are bad raters such as the person who has down rated your question which I think is reasonable and has discussion merit.

So Sorry that you are having a Problem with the rating of Questions -- It,s really a Matter of "Free Choice and Personal Opinion" -- Some Folk think a Question is "Good" others think it is "Bad" and are free to vote accordingly -- If you wish to "Stifle" the options of Individuals , I would Imagine this is not the only Problem you have regarding "Control" over individuality --- A Whiff of the "Politically Correct" Desease emanates from your "Question" ???

It makes life on YA very interesting. Try not to be so thin skinned. Try asking questions that get lots of responses.
