America came equipped with an abundance of useful natural resources and great climates and soils for agriculture. It also has benefited greatly from the great variety of immigrants who turned the land into a country.

America has always been a place where many people longed to live. Afghanistan is just a place people have to go through in order to get somewhere else (unless you are in the opium market).

Afganistan is one of the poorest countries in the world. It has seen wars for decades.

A lot more work still needs to be done in Afganistan, such that it can have a properous future.

War is very bad for any country. I really admire the Afghan people for thier courage, from fighting the British conquerers (the Brits failed 3 times) and the Soviet invasion and occupation.

Most of the country is still controlled by warlords and the like, only Khandahar and Kabul is under coalation control. May I also say that opium production has considerably increased, Afghan heroin is very famous.

I hope that Afganistan can live in peace within itself and have a prosperous and happy future.

So much for Bush's war on drugs.

Simple... Afghans are tribal people with primitive skills; America is the Great Melting Pot of the world's major ethnic tribes mostly from Europe - their level of sopistication is a million times higher than Afghanistan village people.

you can look at most poor nations in the middle east, eastern europe, asian, latin america, etc. almost every one of them has a long history of dictatorships, civil war, communism, or revolutions. political and economic instability does harm that lasts decades. i would not compare afghanistan to the US, but to its neighbors. certainly in a decade it could be much better off than pakistan and other muslim countries in the region. They are headed in the right direction, but economic progress takes time.

Maybe because our government doesn't keep the public down and the wealthiest person in America is not the person in charge.
