I'm 35 and I have had my tongue pierced for almost a year now. It was swollen for about a week but after that it healed very well. I went to a piercing place known for being sterile and clean. The biggest benefit I've found is that the guys love it, think its cute when you play with it and it is an attention getter when you want it to be. I like being able to change it like my other jewelry. They have neon, jeweled, sparkle, glow in the dark, plastic, metal, resin and a huge variety of other fun tongue rings. As for benefits to others. It can be fun to kiss with and tease. It can also be a sexual aide and there are vibrating and massaging tongue rings available also.

Wow, apparently everyone is down on these beauties. Thanks!
To clear up these misconceptions: I have a tongue piercing, I speak beautifully, and after the initial swelling went down, my articulation has been fine. Bleeding, if done by a professional, is minimal, swells for 2 weeks, when placed correctly shouldn't affect your teeth either. So be informed, for one!
Now, the second part: benefits. As far as I'm concerned, they look pretty, but according to your last answers, this is debatable. The only other benefits are sexual: comes in handy for use on boys and girls, and is definitely a turn on when kissing people (or so they tell me). Apart from that, they're just fun.
Just be sure you go to someone FULLY HEALTH ACCREDITED, where it smells like a dentists, and that they use NEW NEEDLES. I say NEW coz mine didn't, and it hurt more than it had to. Since, I only ever go to somewhere where they go beyond health standards, and I haven't had a problem.
Good luck! May I also direct you to the BMEzine.com website, where they have info on any body modification you care to name, and an extensive range of piercing info, pics and experiences.

I am answering seriously.
There is one reason to get your tongue pierced, and that is to give great oral sex.
The most mind blowing hj I have had was from a girl with a pierced tongue.

No benefits at all!I think it is awflul and so out of fashion........Also it may turn out to be harmful,as you can get many diseases by pearcing a so sensitive part of the body.It is also said that you may have a lack of the taste that youy normally have when you eat

yeah there are actually benefits from tongue peircings. thats giving good head.
they dont effect your speach, they may swell a bit at first, but after that u can talk perfectly normally!
if u get it done, drink soft drink after. it helps with the healing and cleaning of the peircing. but dont over drink or it wont be able to heal at all if it is too clean

Apparently it's supposed to be "sexy" (I don't think so though). I think that's the main reason why people go for it...lots of dirty things you can do with them apparently. :P
