My ex's father is one of those people that have every model train accessory possible. I'm going to try to be a good guy this Christmas and get each of the family something nice (the mother likes to drink, so easy present (wine, vodka - that is the question). However if I buy a present for one of the family sides, I think it would only be fair to by a cheap gift for both sides. This should be around the $10 mark, no more. Any ideas?

Ask at a model train store what is the one or two items that no fanatic can ever get enough of. Something small but fun. Then lavish him with as much of those as will fit your budget. Or ask the clerk for unusual suggestions that might really make him smile.Perhaps it is possible to have a personalized sign made that has a nickname, street named after him, favorite sport, or another thing particular to this man. The personal items are a thoughtful touch, and exactly the kind of thing that is best when it comes from someone else =)

A serious model railroader probably owns a Dremel Moto-Tool. Find out if he has one. If he does, buy accessory sanding and grinding disks. They're consumables (cuz they don't last long) and he will love them.
