This actually happened to a friend of mine who married her long time bf after he was diagnosed w/ cancer. He died a little less than a year later. Their son receives social security survivor benefits but she was ineligible because they weren't married a full year. She was told that to receive survivor benefits she would have needed to be married over a year. There is no age limit for survivor benefits.

From what I understand you would need to be over 62 years old and married a minimum of 10 years.

there is a 5 or 7 year marriage requirement, i forget which.
