I am not from Hannover. I do speak english and live in hessen. Try coming to frankfurt you will find plenty of english speaking people there. Smile and be yourself and you will find people to talk and hang out with.

try the irish pubs there and you will find some english speaking people

Don't worry. Almost everyone in Germany speaks English. I've visited several times and it's almost like any North American place. Don't forget, English in the International language and it is spoken everywhere where lots of tourists visit.
