I'm purchasing a laptop to take on trips to chat with my wife. I want to keep my home DSL, but also want to obtain wireless internet access for my laptop

I have verizon and they gave me the option of a wireless modem/router or just the modem and I chose the router/modem for 50 bucks instead of just the modem for 30 bucks. You'd probably have to get new equipment but most dsl places I think allow you to use wireless.

I'm sure that what Your are talking about would be some kind of GPRS. Vodaphone kinda what You are talking about. Or You could just use Wi-Fi Hotspots.
