My mom is right in the middle of surgical menopause. She swears she needs an endocrinologist. What is this? Can we ever get normal? One day tears, the next laughs. OOOh. She is so wonderful. She is even on hormones. Now what?

an endocrinologist is an expert in the endocrine system, that is the bodilyy hormones. menopause is the time when a woman becomes unable to produce the hormones at the same level and types as when she was not in menopause. surgical menopause is the sudden stoppage, rather than the normal decrease/increase cycle of hormone production which occurs during menopause. the bi-polar symptoms are normal reactions to her bodil;y changes. however, she may need to have her hormone levels checked so her symptoms are relieved to some degree. in rare cases, hormone may not be the recommended treatment and may even increase the severity of her mood swings. or it may be she is getting to much, or even the wrong type of hormones. each person is different so taking her to an endocrinologist should be considered. a treatment plan would be easily established after some blood work to determine what is wrong and what is needed.

It's a form of bi polar Menopause. Live with it with one eye open while sleeping. Meaning just keep an eye on her and yourself. Seeing that she has probably been normal most of her life, it will go away sooner than it feels. It is just another card in life you have to deal with, but not one you want to throw away, because future cards dealt may make that one a royal flush!

Get her to talk to the doctor about it or talk to the doc yourself. Get her whatever help she needs and try and be supportive. And an endocrinologist is a hormone and gland doctor and she probably needs one. I hope your insurance is good.
