Is it legal to be able to own a monkey? In the CALIFORNIA, USA. and how much would you need to pay?

You would have to have a special permit to own one in California. Monkeys don't make good pets. They are nasty and unpredictable animals. They will poop in their hand and throw it on you. They bite and carry diseases that are transmittable to humans. Why would anyone want to own a monkey? Well, unless of course you are Michael Jackson. A chimpanzee can pick a grown man up and throw you quite a ways. They are very strong. My advice is.........DON'T get one.

It would be very expensive. You would need an exotic pet permit, a vet that could actually treat it, food, a very large habitat, the appropriate toys diapers sleeping areas etc., and probably someone to care for it if you are gone for any length of time. Not to mention that the monkey itself would probably cost quite a bit.

You also need to take into consideration where the animal has come from and understand everything that owning that particular pet means. If it is a rescue animal and you have the time, the patience, and the financial means to care for it then more power to you.

Monkeys suffer at the hands of people who dont know what they are doing. They have very specific needs and die easily if not cared for properly.. You dont sound like someone who knows much about monkeys...

if U wanna have a small monkey it depends.
First U must chose which species U wanna have
If it is alomost extinct U must have a permit or if U have a baboon or chimp U must have a permit and a permanent cage large enough (about 2 hectars)
