Yin/yang is often used by those wishing to appear erudite as a logical black hole. It permits no rational thought to escape. As an observance that there are many dualities in the universe, it may have some use, but it has yet to discover one.

The yin yang is meant to describe the inner world of the soul not to define the outer world.

Of course if you believe that the outer world is simply a reflection of our inner self then its very possible it does describe the universe.
