There is a real sign of intelligence writing you to tell you they don't know or giving you a stupid answer. The Japanese culture was made up of honor, heritage and rituals. The helmets of that time did little more then hold your hair and ear pieces in place. They wore their helmets as they did their short swords because it was part of their uniforms.

Note: Are you aware the Russians, Germans and even the US to an extent had a Kamikaze group? The Russians used to use their props to cut into the tails of German fighters.

Thanks for the chance to help. God Bless You and the Southern People

Well, BM, sadly, many kamikazes did not actually volunteer for this kind of position, but were informed that they had volunteered for it after they were locked into their cockpits (in some cases, welded into their cockpits) and it was made clear that if they wanted things to go well for their families, they had better sacrifice themselves for the Emperor.

They knew they were under the guns of a superior force (the second wave of japanese fighters) and would be shot down if they turned around to attack those responsible for tricking them into this.

So, by the time they were running out of fuel and arriving at the American positions (funny, how cleverly their high command timed that to coincide!) they had a whole lot of mad built up and nobody else available to take it out on. I feel bad for them.

The helmet was part of the uniform. As soldiers in the Imperial Japanese Army, it would be against orders - causing loss of face - to be out of uniform, so...

Hi bakery Man,

They did not wear helmets to save the life at all!

The gears they are seen to wear are not just to preserve lives but also to help make the journey (last?) comfortable. (Goggles & earplugs etc)
Without these gears it becomes very unbearable to fly a fighter plane.

So that they hear themselves scream BANZAI !
But a more realistic answer would be because their communication headphones are a part of their helmet.
