pay him money for calling him Cracker? Also, should they donate the money to the furthurance of Civil Rights like Martin Luther King did with his money from the Nobel Prize? If they are so offended because of the racial slur, wouldnt' that be the right thing to do?

Buzzbeeper, don't tell me who to talk about- your argument was so weak, watered down, and an insult to other blacks.

If Michael Richards does have to pay money over that incident, then it will be another reminder that being whiner, or pretending to be one, is a good way to make money. To answer the question, yes. That's the price of being in the spotlight, having to care about what every fan and person thinks of you.

This probably doesn't answer your question, but in this string it bears saying. A famous comedian was constantly in trouble for using "profane" language, but with a point. Until we no longer fear a word....any word, the feared word will have an unfounded power. words shouldn't hurt people, rather they do exhibit one's ignorance. We need another social commentator like Lenny Bruce again.

They're all bunch of duche bags. If they can win their 'N' case theres going to be class action law suit worth trillions against entire hip hop/ entertainment industry.
We got idiot yelling racial slur and we got other idiots trying to turn profit and not serious discussion. They should all go and talk to Sharpton and Jackson and whatever.

I don't think they have a case at all. I think Gloria Allred is just trying to get herself more attention. Even though I deplore his comments, speech, even the most offensive speech, should be protected in this country. Can I go back and sue the guy who called me a c***? Can my gay friends go back and sue everyone who called them "f@ggots"? Unless it meets the criteria for slander I don't think offensive speech is actionable.

Even if it was said in a harassing way, it was in response to harassment. Why should one comedian be sued for using a word in defense that so many other comedians use as a punch line?

This is how I see it. If he has to pay up, they should too. They are the ones who drove him to say those things in the first place.
