At one time it was and is now an independent principality by a French decree. Should the current head of state, Prince Albert, fail to sire a male heir prior to his death it all reverts to France. They bathe to often to ever be considered French but they are as arrogant and snotty.

This little contract was actually reversed by the French not long ago. Monaco will now remain it's own little 7 block nation no matter how many non-male gendered kids turn up.

It is an independent principality with its own head of state and National Assembly. It's about the size of a large country club with several swimming pools and a casino.

Although the country is as small as a lot of university campuses in the USA, it is still an INDEPENDANT country.
