Good question, and the answer is yes...the mainstream media, under the illusion of "free", filters and spins the news, and in effect caters to the ideology of corporate profiteering and the interests of the VERY wealthy thus giving the American public a notorious reputation for being politically and socially illiterate. There is no way a well-informed nation would tolerate a system where millions don't have medicare insurance, and the top 5% of the wealthiest own SOOOO much more of the assets, and have sooo much more privileges. Also, by manipulating the mind of the public to seek entertainment, Hollywood gossip and tit bits have replaced relevant information and serious national debate. Well, if you look into ownership and influences that shape the media, you'll see that it is the Zionist Jews and the super dooper wealthy, so what do you expect?!

Tries to make us stupid? or attempts to beguile us is what they end up doing more times than not.

Now when it coms to journalism, understand that first and foremost, its someone tryingto make a name for themselves.
I got the hot story, or i got the latest story first.
Thats their business and everyone wants to get ahead of business.

Controlling the media is a different issue althogether.
There are many ways to do this.
Dont think there havent been times when the owner of a certain channel or paper has pulled ome strings to limit or eliminate something from being told.

Its big business and politics, and most the time what we see and read is only the tip of the iceberg, where its just get it out before the others do.
Then later we'll just submit a retraction or an apology, but the other guy cant get the beat on us.
No way!

My favorite is the war journalists.
Remember the scandal they made of some troops not getting enough to eat.
Ask any soldier, and he'll tell you that two or even one MRE is all you really need to get you through the day.
Regs say you need 3 but ask anyone...3 is way too much.
Yet, you have reporters saying theres not enough food to go around, how we treating our troops.
what a crock!

Or the idiots that want to be the first to get the secrets out.
Releasing top secret memos, releasing info that shouldnt be.
funniest thing to me was when idiot geraldo revera was giving troop locations out on live t.v.
but a prime example of i want to be first, i dont care about real journalism, let me just get my name out there..

Journalist are sale people nothing more.
Their product is events.
And you should know how sales people are

Unfortunately the American media definitely caters to a group of people who are supposed to have reasonable IQs but not too high. Their reporting is sensationalism and they pick up only on the stories that they feel will satisfy their particular group of viewers. They must keep giving us garbage because they need the ratings, the higher the better. Remember they are sponsored by companies that want many viewers. The more the better for the sponsors and the higher prices that the various TV networks can obtain. Much of the reporting is not done on a high level; however, occasionally you may find a program that delves into the news with greater substance and determination to get to the heart of the story. It seems that Americans like rape, murder, pedophiles, illegal immigration, political foul ups by congressmen/women and the left fighting the right. They get you to stay with the program by using words like: "you won't believe this!" Giving the news is a business and lets not forget it.

I think the media is a distraction. Its like the snake charmer. While most people are watching "reality TV", soap operas, sitcoms or whatever else. Leaders of the country get to run wild and corruption runs rampant. It was the job of the media to keep our politicians honest and expose the frauds. Since now the media is all about entertainment and propaganda, most people have no idea whats going on in their country behind their backs. "BEWARE THE GOVERNMENT MEDIA COMPLEX" -Michael Savage. The politicians and the media are to close and that make for a dangerous situation. Wake up people and Demand real leadership.

NO, The media tries to inform us but many times we dismiss the information because it does not agree with what we believe so therefore we think to ourselves it must not be true. How many people still believe that Iraq had something to do with 9/11 even though the Bush administration itself has said that Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11.

No, they are not the cause. Our stupidity is what is causing them to stoop to our level. How many Americans know that Brad Pitt divorced Jennifer Aniston and married Angelina? BUT how many Americans can name even two Supreme Court justices... or the Speaker of the House?

They just try to scare us to get ratings, we probably already act stupid.

We waste our energy slandering each other as a liberal or conservative while our government seems to be impotent; can't protect a border, react to a disaster, run an educational system... citizens efforts should rather be toward making gov't accountable.

Seems to work though, they scare, we watch.
