Why would he even be considered after the way he ended his career anyways?

i agree with Maradona Jr except with his last 2 lines....ronaldinho would be the winner of the best player award? man are we talkin about the same ronaldinho here? my MOM could have played better than he did in the worldcup! common!!! he doesnt deserve a thing and u know it! and cannavaro wouldnt even be nominated? watch the italian matches and ull know what he is and should be nominated...he was AMAZING in the worldcup...nd to all those italian fans here like Juventina and Mrs.Materazzi....hehe what the hell r u talkin about? zidane was fantastic in this worldcup! dont lie to urselves! ok u won the worldcup ....even though u didnt deserve it congratulations...but there is no doubt the zidane is the best player....he is a maestro, no one from italy deserves the award more than him...maybe cannavaro just after zidane , but Zizou is the number one! and fifa will prove me right when he wins the best player award :) get over it italians!!

The article is interesting, Zidane indeed has played only half the year and expect in the WC , he was un-inspirational at Madrid, due to his ageing effect .But now-a-days I'm not shocked by who is picked after Henrywas not even in the top 3 list, coz according to me he should have been the winner this year

I'm not getting involved in the France/Italy thing. The unbiased truth of the matter is that if players are considered simply because of a months play in a WC tournament, other players can be considered for half a years play. It does show that he is respected by his peers though and the esteem they have for him. That says a lot when you think about it.

FIFA Player of the Year Award is voted by players and coaches (not by journalist like Ballon d'Or) and they all understand that the fact that he head-butt Materazzi has nothing to do with the fact that he was the best player of the WC, Cannavaro won Ballon d'Or because for journalists the biggest event this year was the WC, but professional players and coaches have maximum respect for Zidane and because they know how is it to be under that kind of pressure they can understand why he head-butt Materazzi, journalist can't because they know how to write not how to play football, and if we will talk about their performance before the WC then we all know that Cannavaro wouldn't even be nominated and Ronaldinho would be a winner!!!!!

His quality of playing for half an year is much better than the quality of playing by Cannavaro or any other italian of that matter playing for more than a year.
If Zizou has played for only half an year, he has played really good during that period.
Cannavaro playing many years will not put up to make ZIdane's excellent play.
P.S.The FIFA world player of the year is given on the basis how the players play not how the retaliate when a loser insults him on pitch.

he deserves to be in the list, but not win the award, but he deserves to win the award for respecting his sister. How about that?
He is a wonderful player, he has proven that in juventus, he has proved that in real madrid, he proved that in france, and it is because of him that france had to play the finals
Negaiive aspect - it is because of him that the rivalry between france and italy started, but don't think that materazzi is no cause
It is because of him that juventus is well known, and it is because of him that real madrid has become more famous.
It is because of him that people started hating materazzi, it was because of him people started hating himself
He has brought grace to football, he has taught young ones to improve their football, it is because of him that the world cup was even more famous.
It is because of him people started hating him/ liking him.
Negative asp[ect - people started headbutting others because of that world cup incident.
He is really a great player.
He is just a human who loses temper, just like you and me.
I don't know, why people hate him and criticize him for the last incident!
but remember one thing, i neither favour the french nor the italians, i only adore

Is It Because he is french ? yes , it is .
zidane was not one of the best player of the year - kaka , buffon ..................... were a lot better than him . thats a poor decision .
Exactly , He played just till july 9th and retired , thats just 7 months . he was good this year but not one of the best , i absolutely agree with you .
