they say that wasn't the very very begining. it began as a dance for peasant people and was adopted as entertainment in "night clubs" later, at the end of the 19th century to attract customers. i never heard that it was a street dance though.

No, we on the streets were really bored and decided to entertain ourselves wothout the use of music...thus the human body provides such things.
