It's the Central Processing Unit. It's the part of the computer that does most of the computing work. It takes the instructions from your programs and executes them, and moves bytes of data around. The main manufacturers these days are Intel and AMD. Both make good processors, and prices are always going down, and the capabilities are always increasing.

Central proccessing unit. Basically the brain of any computer. It is full of millions of scr's , siliconed rectified switches . The best way to describe it is, it is basically a very very complex calculator. They are very fast now too. A 3 gig cpu basically can calculate a set amount of data , say 30 pages of fine print, 3000 times a second, fast enough for you? This is still nothing compared to whats coming.
