is it a mix or is it something for a cover up,(purity ?)

I was always told it was because a low (automotive)grade of ether was used in the refining process.

It is to do with the production process. Coca leaves are dried and then turned into a paste. Often producers will soak the leaves in gasoline in order to extract the desired chemicals more quickly. This gives it that odour. Usually when it is highly refined this smell will be removed or at least greatly reduced.

its been cut with an oiled blade or some one thought that cutting it with ether or isopropal alcohol will make it more potent, like crack.... You'll get this allot but just don't do that crap, It can and dose cause death.

Exactly, most all cocaine is "cut" with something. If it smells like gas...well...
