Start with hats and mitts for everyone, and an age apropriate toy for each child. And perhaps a couple of books A basket of food they wouldn't be able to afford woud always go over well, too. The one year I had pneumonia and couldn't afford to give my kids a good christmas, I got a christmas basket from my mom's union filled with luxuries like smoked salmon, fancy cookies and crackers, a turkey, chocolates and expensive jams along with toys for my kids, books, nail polish, and wonderfully scented bath products. You have no idea how good that first bath after christmas morning felt, being able to give my kids a good christmas, and being able to pamper myself

maybe get the kids if they have any gifts but let the parents give them to the kids and let the parents pick them out but you pay for them. Or maybe give them money to help pay some of the bills that they are struggling with if you can. Or make a christmas eve dinner for them if they allow you too. if you attend church or know a non profit organation that will help them. let the organation know about the family and they will help them. Let you church know if you attend one most of churches have a donation box for such situations. So if you attend one let the paster know and then go from there.
