Such things happen in all minority groups.

Because 99% of the time for a black person to be successful at least some assimilation is required, which sometimes could make it seem that they could turning their back on their community, whether or not that were their intentions.

And some malicious whites use some of these successes to knock down and continue generalizing the black populations, acting as if everyone else chooses the life they're in out of laziness and inferiority of some kind, and that can sting.

And some people just can't stand to see someone get further than themselves, which is a annoying part of human nature.

There are two ways too look at this question.
When this African American become sucessful does he removal himself from who he was to begin with (think T.I's movie ATL) Is he now a member of the golf club who thinks that basketball is another form of slavery. Does he only eat caviar, and think that chicken is the opressive tool of the 'white' man. A lot of black people would cargue that some african American's 'get rich and switch'. You would have to consider what constitutes a switch. Losing your heritage, yes. opening yourself to other cultures, like eating fish eggs, and playing golf no.
They just don't understand is all that in the business sometimes a person has to make lifestyle changes that another african american would find weird or something.
think about it you are not going to be a millionaire and sit up on the block playing cards with the home boys drinking 40's.
puff daddy is a great example. He's suscessful and he's still considered african american right? I've seen him play golf and visit Southern Derby's.

I agree with E.... this is a more complex issue than simple jealousy or lazy people resenting hard workers. To be successful in the US almost everyone has to play the white man's game. That includes white women as well. I have noticed that many of my African American acquaintances talk different when they are in the mostly white workplace than they do in groups of other black people. This clues me in that there are African Americans who live in two worlds-- their own communities, and the "white world."

I totally get you. In my country, we are made up of 3 main races. My race is well known for being lazy and spoonfed. So when someone actually makes it in life, there's always other people (usually of the same race) that would constantly put down that said person,

"oh, he had to kiss some major a$$ to be where he is today"

"he must have had a relationship with his boss"

"he's not really rich, he married the boss' daughter"

or something like that. These people are just jealous, they can't accept that someone CAN be both successful and noble in getting there. Hardwork and perseverance- they have no idea what it means.

i'm an African-American and that i've got had pals who have been organic born Africans. They have been superb to me and did no longer seem to harbor any unfavorable attitudes in the direction of African-American's specifically. yet I relatively have heard from them and another people who many Africans do have a unfavorable effect human beings African-human beings as a results of fact we've been assimilated into the U. S. way of existence or "whitewashed", understand little approximately Africa and so can't be seen genuine Africans. that is real, yet we gained't quite help that. i've got traced my lineage returned to African slaves, yet i replaced into born and raised in united statesa., so because it relatively is the form of existence i understand. the way I see it, I relatively have African blood yet an American techniques. If every person has a situation with that, it quite is their situation no longer mine.

This is because people want an idea of social balance. If a person's friend is more successful, the person tries to compensate by making themselves feel better than the successful person.

because they don't see themselves as being sucessful, nor do they have the vision to accep the success of the one they're dissin'
Unfortunatley, success in sports, music, and even crime (ganstas! p-l-e-a-s-e!) has been extolled and encouraged, and very little is said about the hard working heroic policemen, firemen, studious doctors, or hard working business executives. Even Condi Rice is dissed and SHE is one of the most powerful, visible African American women in the world!

Only the people sitting on their lazy behinds say that. Only the jealous say that. Those black folks who work hard and are proactive in life say....I'm so proud of you.

My sister in-law is a black woman...and an RPH.

If I ever accused her of acting white... I think she would be more insulted than anything else...

So I never would... It is ignorant~
