I received damaged property due to a service person coming into my home to repair a related problem. The damages caused will by upwards of $4,500.00.
What is the process of filing a case? Do I need a lawyer..or can I defend my own case in small claims court?
I gave the company adequate opportunity to solve the issue, but they have been very sketchy, and I've also reported them to the Better Business Bureau.

<>It is always recommended you use a lawyer, but many people do not for small claims. If your case is solid, you will do fine. Here is a very nifty website explaining the procedures in IL (the first is the main site, the second is the .pdf booklet):

You will need to contact the office of your attorney general. That information should be in your phone book. They will more than likely have you put down a written disposition. For a matter this large, I would definately consult a lawyer once at the very least, because they know more about specific things you can do, and could help you get much more than just the 4,500.00. Besides, if this company employes a lawyer of their own, they could make things very annoying for you. Good luck!
