You flick the cards out the same way you shuffle the cards (bend them and start releasing so they shoot out into the air) so the cards go streaming out like silly string out of a can. That is actually the 'proper' technique for 52 Card Pickup. Cards ending up everywhere is the point of the 'game'.

Take a deck of cards and throw them straight up in the air as far as you can. 52 cards will now land all over the floor. Now you go and pick them up.
... and that folks is how you play 52 card pickup!

Take a deck of cards, ask someone if they want to play, if they say yes... take the cards and throw them all over the ground and say "pick them up".

Ask someone if they want to play it then throw the cards and tell them to pick them up. It works really well if you throw the cards into a cieling fan.
