Different cultures have made their own forms of mathematics. The Mayans, Indians, Greeks, and Chinese all developed seperate math systems. Our mathematics today comes mainly from ideas developed in ancient India and Greece. Algebra and other topics were taken from India to Arabia, where they were then transferred to Europe. Most of our geometry comes from the Greeks. Calculus was developed in Europe by Sir Isaac Newton.

I am currently going back to school. I have been out of High School for 21 years. I have an associate degree in June 1996. I have never understood math, like to math they have now. Really, come on Mathematics is not my favorite subject. My closing comment whoever invented this New Math is a Genius!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need a Math Genius now.

In most cases no one invented any mathematics - however, a number of different people DISCOVERED mathematics. What I mean is, no one "invented" adding. When you put things together, you are adding. It's a physical way of the universe, but someone discovered how adding "worked" , what its rules are, and how it behaves.

Mathematics is not invented, it is discovered. Since there are several different branches of math, there are many people who have discovered mathematical concepts, but credit usually goes to the people who are first to publish their discoveries.
