You are really hypothetical. I hunt for dinosaur eggs and other fossils and I always wondered what I would do if I found a viable egg. Since I live and work in China, I would have to report it eventually but I would be tempted to keep the animal even if it was carnivorous. What I have done in the past is to study the animal, photograph them before I reveal it to the government. (We often discover new species of reptiles or insects) but many specimens are taken to the national museum and just kept there...they are classified but science in museums seems to move very slowly. In Hong Kong, we discovered two species...one was a frog called Rana paraspinosa and it took over a year to decide it was new to the area, the second was a small water snake Opistrotrophis kuatensis which had never been recorded so far south in China. It took almost six months to even record it. So I would probably keep it and study it...then sadly turn it over to the government.

I would definitely NOT waste the dinosaur by keeping it like a common pet until it died. I would very quietly and carefully search out the right institution to show up at carrying the baby dinosaur in a box. I would choose a scientific institution filled with professionals who would be sure to take one look at the dinosaur and made sure it got into the right hands for proper scientific study. I'd also hire a lawyer first to secure my rights over the dinosaur, mainly so I can get money and also so I have access to the research and breakthroughs they make on it.

Move far away into the mountains where you will never be found. Take Squirmy with you.
If you were to give a new species to animal control, who knows what they would do with it.
Remember Nimrod in Surface?
Wouldn't want that happening to Squirmy

I would not "tell" per say. I would "sell" however! Anyway, there is no possible way that this will ever happen. If the egg has not hatched with in 30 days of being layed, then it will never hatch. Good question though.

Tell authorities because they could take care of it better and it would be a huge boon to science.
