She is gaining weight. Is it normal after the second baby. She was fine after the first baby. Now she does not get her periods. She is worried. Pregnancy test was negative.

It's perfectly normal. The hormones from nursing are the body's natural form of birth control. Although it's not a guarantee of not getting pregnant, it's her body's way of saying it's not ready to support another baby yet. Some woman do get them back right away, others don't for extended times. Every woman, and every pregnancy/post partum is different. I am nursing my son, and at 16 months still don't get them, and I know women who get them right away after the original bleeding is finished. Don't worry, and ENJOY it while it lasts! Congratulations on the new baby. :-)

Didn't get my period for 10 months. I am still breastfeeding at 16 months and it comes sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. As for the weight gain? I have no clue, but I am smaller than I was before pregnancy but that's cause I never stop running around!
Also, every pregnancy and nursing experience is unique(1st time not like second, etc)A doctor is of course, the best one to answer your questions if you are really concerned. Good luck!

Don't be worried. Supporting your Breastfeeding wife is the BEST THING you can do. Don't ever doubt her, or suggest any negative effects of Bresatfeeding.

When I Breastfeed my babies, I GAIN weight. I know 'all the books' say that BF helps you loose it. But not me....I CRAVE CALORIES around the clock. so I know that I will be 20 pounds overweight until I wean.

As for periods. ALL WOMEN ARE DIFFERENT. Some never skip a period, no matter how faithfully/intensely they are breastfeeding. Some others don't menstruate until their child is completely weaned (some don't wean until 2 years old...and don't have a period until after that child is weaned!).
For me....my period came back after 4.5 mos of nursing my firstborn. And after my daughter, it came back 2 months after I had her.
I exclusively breastfed them both. So go figure! I always envy those women who can nurse and never have a period!

I am not sure about her weight gain but I can tell you that it is perfectly normal that she has not had her period yet.Especially if she is breast feeding exclusively.I breast fed my youngest son until around 16 months and did not get my period at all for 12 months of that time. How ever please do not assume that because she is breast feeding and does not have her period that she can not get pregnant that is a myth. It is less likely yes but not impossible. If you do not want any more kids rite now you must use birth control.

It is normal to not have a period while breastfeeding. The bleeding she had in the first month was her lochia from the birth, not a menstrual cycle. Some women never get a period the whole time they breastfeed.

My periods returned at 10 mos, at 9.5 mos and at 16 mos postpartum after my 3 kids were born.

That's totally normal. It's actually healthy- the fewer periods you have over your life the lower your risk of ovarian, breast, and endometrial cancer. I didn't get my period until my daughter was 20 months old. I was still nursing at the time. It depends on how often you nurse and stuff but 4.5 months is still pretty early. Periods are annoying and the break is nice.

I Breast feed my children until 2 & had no period for 2 glorious years with each child...it is normal but you need to still use protection she can still get pregnant. As for weight gain, could be she is eating to much or she has a thyroid problem she should see her doctor if she is ot eating too much & is staying active

My son is ten months old now and I still have not had a period .. because I am breastfeeding. It is very normal and fine. If she just WANTS to have a period (not sure who would but..) there are some birth controls you can take and it will regulate even while breastfeeding. But I would JUST ENJOY it while she can haha

Most women do not get their period when they breastfeed. Unfortunately I am not one of them, I have been breastfeeding for 9 months and still get it like I always have. Let your wife know not to worry, it is normal. She may start getting again after she stops nursing. Congrats!

When a new mother is breast feeding; it can take longer for the period to arrive; breast feeding can act as a form of birth control, some how; but don't count on it totally to be 100 effictive. It usually takes longer for the period to arive for those that do b/f that those that don't. Ti could be around 6 months give or take some weeks; it differs with everyone.
