It just seems like something different should have been done besides "allowing" them to live on reservations. But I admit, I don't know what the answer is. It seems like the white man stole their land, their dentity, their whole way of life. What do you think?

Yeah I think genocide just a bit unfair and does the red race have a seat in the united nations seems it was a nation before Mr. pilgrim arrived . very grim in fact .Some blacks want pay back but the Indian nation is first in line. yes I agree but the us govt is afraid of honoring the red man in treaty for fear of losing the land that was stolen from what I've heard.

The American Indians had nothing different than mankind has delivered during all history.
- Was it fair for the Persians to conquor and reocate the jews?
- Was it fair for Romans to conquer the middle east and subjegate them?
-Was it fair for the barbarians and the goths to ravage and steal from the Romans
- Was it fair for the Vikings to raid and pillage and take the land from Engand, France, Ukraine, Portugal, Spain and Sicily?
- So, is it fair for the Europeans to migrate to North America, carry ilnesses, steal, conquer, overwhelm and lie to the American Indian?

It is an artifact of history, an interesting footnote at this time, since the American INdian is now an American or Canadian and can (and has) intermarried and blended into the society of their "conquerors". It will be a historical footnote someday, if it isn;t already.

No, life was not fair to them, but it is long done and not to be changed for the sake of fairness anymore. My ancestors arrived in America in the last 100 years. I don't feel particularly guilty or responsible about this.

In a way, the interesting footnote is the native American right to build and own casinos in their tribal lands. That sure compensates for a lot of unfair actions of the past. I can;t own a casino, but a 1/16 descendant of many tribes can. ,,,and I bear no grudges for their good luck and looting of the white conqueror.

Have the American Indians been treated unfairly? Hmmm? Stealing their land. Destroying their way of life. Pushing them forcibly onto reservations. Treating them less than human. Commiting genocide against them. Gosh. I'm just not sure. Geez. Is there some way we could have treated them less fairly?

I do not think that there can be any way now to fix problems that happened hundreds of years ago. It is too late for us to just all leave the continent and give them back the land. I think their only choices are to preserve their cultures on reservations or integrate into American society.

My dad's side of the family is Canadian Indian, but we are all the same when it comes to what is "fair." We all feel like we've been mistreated. Still being mistreated by how the governments are letting us rot from the inside. Reservations are prisons and nesting grounds for mental illness, and the governments don't lift their fingers to help. All they say is "Poor Indians."

Yes, I agree that we stole their land and life from them. They deserve the land and salaries they get living on the reservations.

That's all true...The government pretends to make ratifications but are they really ...no. So what the gov pays for my education and when i needed it, the council helped with a gas bill...whoopty doo. My family is so far removed from our heritage and so integrated with other cultures...both black and white, That when we get together none of us look alike...Our heritage is almost lost or pride is however, STRONG

Do we blame the Sioux for stealing the Crow's lands?
Do we blame the Aztecs for stealing the Mayan lands? (think it was the Mayans)

The history of the world is one savage tribe taking another savage tribe's land. there are no innocents. There are civilizations, and then there are Civilizations.

Don't feel too badly for them They're doing very well with their gambling casinos.

Yes they were. This is a world wide issue. Tribal people are usually supplanted by the more modernised cultures. This is still happening in many parts of the world.
