I grew up watching the movie. In my youth I must've seen it 30 or 40 times. I just saw a live performance of it and met up with Ted Neeley in the green room after the show. My mother-in-law asked him if he is a Christian and he said that he is. After that I rewatched the movie. I think it's a really good flick and I can't put my finger on what the big deal is.

I'm not a Christian myself, but I can appreciate the film for what it is. It's just a great musical, with a great story about a great man. So, why do so many Christians have a problem with this movie?

There are a lot of people that don't understand symbolism. There are also many who never saw the play, never saw the movie, and never listened to the music who are very much against anything that deviates from traditional worship services.

The sexiness of the final number is a big part of it. Add in the drugs, guns and prostitution going on in the market and suddenly it becomes a bit offensive to some. Also, there is still a small segment of the population that considers Rock & Roll to be "The Devil's Music."

The problem with JC Superstar may be that it is very much a musical from the point of view of Judas.

The only problem I had with the film was that it was not as good as the stage show. The only problem I had with the stage show was that I already knew the ending.

I have been a Christian all my life and I think that most Christian don't like this movie because it really does not tell the story of christ the way the bible does. And dont like Hollywood messing with the bible unless there going to tell the truth
