I currently share my home computer with roommates. Althought we all agreed no one would visit adult related websites, someone isn't keeping their end of the agreement. What can I download to prevent anyone from visiting adult sites on my computer? Or is that impossible to do? I'm currently not in the position to buy a new computer.

Try installing a program that prevents users from viewing adult material, set a password for it, also lock the system settings so that other users can't modify the computer (install or delete programs) if you're the administrator you have all the power because you have the passwords.

You want to block internet CONTENT.

You can do this with the settings on your own PC if you are the Administrator of your personal computer.

The path to use Content Advisor:
In your Internet Explorer browser go to TOOLS> Internet Options > tab CONTENT > frame Content Advisor > button SETTINGS

At this point you will encounter request for Administrator password (IF one has been set)
Enter the password if required; or at this time create a password.

Do this to set approved and UNapproved sites:
1. On the General tab you can manage your password and other limitations. Make sure that you select a password that you will NOT ever forget, and something your other users will not ever guess.

2. Next select tab APPROVED SITES
then enter the URL for the site(s) you want and click
either button ALWAYS or button NEVER.

3. Now select tab RATINGS
Select all that you want blocked and set the slide more to the right for higher security.

Copy and paste these instructions into a WORD document, and keep them so that you can remember how to go back and adjust the settings as you like in the future.

Any time someone tried to visit a site that is rated contrary to these settings, they will encounter a request for the password. If they can not give the password, access to that web site will not happen.

that's a bit hard to do, unless you have expensive equipment that can filter out content

if you have windows xp or 2000, you can setup user profiles so that they can download stuff on their profile only and you don't have to see their downloaded filth. although this will not prevent them from downloading or visiting adult sites, this will keep them from cluttering up your desktop space.

there are softwares out there that can prevent access to certain type of sites, such as adult sites. but there's always a way around software so it's not exactly bulletproof. but it certainly can help.

if you want to check out the software, google cyberpatrol

if you are using windows and Internet Explorer, go to the TOOLS menu, then go to the Content tab. There is a place there where you can easily set the types of content you want blocked. If you are using WinXP, you will need to be logged in as the administrator, assuming it is YOUR computer and you are the administrator. If its not yours, and somebody else is admin, then you can't stop them.

lol it might seem childish or whatnot, but there are thousands of content/material controlling programs and options on the web. Put this on and set a password to lock the option. I think theres one on normal internet explorer broswer if you go to the "internet options" in the tools option.

Where there is a will, there is a way... I don't think it can be done, as everything has a way around it that's pretty simple if you aren't a kid. If I were you, I would invest in another computer, or at least wear gloves...

you can use a filtering software. like most antivirus programs right now has built in site filter. place a password on it and they are automatically blocked from that site.
