What kind of music your into would help. Fender's are good I prefer the telecaster over the strat my self but that's me. Gibson's are expensive epiphone is a cheaper gibson. Les pauls are good guitars
I don't care for them on the looks department but hey you can't deny there sound. I would say get some one that knows about guitars and hit up some pawn shops. Or if your dead set on new stuff try www.musicansfriend.com or guitar center. If I had it to do all over I would have saved up and just bought my Jackson soloist its about a grand but my favorite guitar by far or in your situation a les paul. Good luck and on more tip when buying a guitar make sure you love everything about it the shape the color and most important the sound. Good luck playing and have fun.
Not trying to be mean but all walmart stuff is junk. ok for everyone Firstact guitars are junk but if a "car company" put alot of money in my face to endorse them I would do it to. I beg you please don't waste your money on junk. There are to many companys out there that make good stuff to buy firstact.

You can't go wrong with a Fender Stratocaster. Strats come at different price points, but you're probably looking for a standard, made in mexico strat. Good dependable design, that's been around for over 50 years. It's a good guitar that will last long after you decide to move up and may still keep it. If you're just starting out the most important thing is to get something that is comfortable to you and above all stay in tune.
