Google Earth. We use it at work. It has most places in the country. You can zoom in, and rotate the angle to see the terrain.

You will also get the entire planet at a high resolution. All of it, even areas like Area 51, show up. Its not real-time and it isn't even updated frequently, but as maps go its just about the ultimate.

Get Google Earth and it will allow just what you are wanting. In fact, all over the world. Go to Google.com and start from there. The program is free.
