At what age do I think it is alright to start taking birth control, as in the pill? The second you start having sex regularly is the time and if you're having sex regularly, you and doc should have considerations as to whether that behavior is healthy and normal for your age.
You can get birth control without your mother's permission, but if you get it for medical reasons (period) and not to deter implantation of embryo into uterine wall then your mother, as a reasonable person, should accept the birth control as a medicine similar to vitamin or tylenol. Of course it's up to you if you want to lie to her about your intentions (which it seems you might be doing).
Always practice safe sex (i.e. condom to prevent stds).

You can get the birth control pills alright without your mother knowing it. Or you can behave yourself and wait until you are old enough or how about married before you start giving your body away. Shame on you. Go tell your mother you are having sex with boys. Go ahead. break her heart. She should know. Your mother doesn't just not believe in bc, she doesn't believe YOU should be spreading your legs for boys. Go ask your socialist school teacher, she can get you bc or an abortion or anything else you want. Are you the daughter you want you daughter to be?

If you have to ask the question, then you are too young to be sexually active. I was a virgin when I started taking the pill because I had problems with my menstrual cycle. After about a year, I was able to go off of them and never used them again until I was with my (ex) husband.
The pills are not 100% and make him use a condom anyway to protect you from STDs.
Many people can't use the pill because of side effects. They can cause blood clots, increase the risk of heart attack, among other things. Talk to your doctor about the side affects and be sure to read all the accompanying information.

Wow - that's a kind of difficult situation... I don't know how old you are, but if you're having sex - you should be using birth control.
And - I've known a number of women who successfully used the pill to regulate their periods, and reduce cramping...
You should talk to you doctor - then your mom - set up or have your mom set up an appointment about your menstruation. That will give you a good opportunity to talk to the doctor, and then you and the doctor can talk to your mom...
Oh - and if I didn't make it obvious earlier - the pill, in one form or another, is the most reliable form of b control.. as long as you take it reliably...

Well for a start, birth control is very good for managing periods and can tone down the severity of of your periods including cramps. You could talk to your doctor about it. It's a good excuse to go on birth control. And, you can even get something called a mini-pill which is basically more for periods and not very good for protection but it's a step up right? Once you get on one pill you can always change to one with higher protection. I would go to your doctor and talk about going on the pill and tell your mum about the benefits for your period, after all, she doesn't want you to suffer greatly every month does she? Good luck :)

Doctors do prescribe the pill for some problems with periods. If it is for birth control, when a girl becomes sexually active. You should also use condoms because the pill does not protect you from STD's and some of them are permanent these days.
Discuss your period problems with your mother, ask to see a doctor about that.

You didn't mention how old you are. If you have to ask, you're too young. Tell your parents. Your mother would probably want you on birth control than be pregnant before you are ready . Take responsibility for your actions. Do you think delaying telling them will make it easier. Tell them now.

I'm still a virgin, but I've been on the pill for 3 years now- I was 18 when I went on it, right before I left for college. As far as asking your mother, tell her about the problems you've had with your period, and do some research to tell her about how it helps with those problems. I'm on the generic ortho-tri-cyclen, but your doctor can help you pick out the right kind for you.

Any age is appropriate, dont get me wrong I dont approve of "young" people having sex but I feel as soon as you become sexually active its time to use some sortve birth control and its responsible on your part for taking it into consideration, so good job. I know its hard to talk to your mom but you need to I mean outve respect for her talk to her. But if you are that scared they do have clinics that provide free birth control with out parental consent:
http://www.fwhc.org/tc-teens.htm
http://www.pphsso.org/clinics/fpep.htm
http://www.epigee.org/guide/pill.html
http://www.metrokc.gov/health/famplan/clinics.htm
http://www.fwhc.org/birth-control/ecinfo.htm
http://www.hasslefreeclinic.org/BirthControl.html
When finding a clinic to get your birth control talk to there counselors also, its a good idea. Also about 98% of the places are anonymous meaning just because you give your name it wont come back to your parents. Hope that helps you.

The pill really helps with your symptoms pertaining to your period. Talk to your mother about it. There's no need to admit having sex when asking about birth control. It has more than one function.
